Events

Two types of event are detailed on this page. Some organised by our committee and some by groups.

Firstly, the committee frequently organises social events in addition to the monthly Open Meetings. These include lunches, soirees and outings, for example the Christmas Lunch held in December 2024 and shown opposite. Details of such events are displayed below - see Lunches, Soirees and Outings.

Secondly, the activities at many groups follow a routine pattern and details of such activities may be found on the respective group pages.

However, some groups provide a programme of talks, visits or musical experiences, so that the topic of interest varies greatly from meeting to meeting. This page showcases the rich variety of such events. If you spot a group organising events that appeal to you, perhaps you could consider contacting the Group Leader and attend one of these events as a taster, with a view to joining a new group. These events are listed under the heading All Events including Events at Group Meetings below.

Check back regularly to see what is new.

Lunches, Soirees and Outings

These events are open to all members of North Cotswold u3a, but be advised that booking is required as the number of participants is limited.

Rudyard Kipling had a troubled childhood.  He was sent back to the UK from India at the age of 5 but returned at 16 to run a newspaper in Lahore!  We learn of the sadness of losing his young daughter to a fever and then his son John in WW1.  Mike reminds us of all the wonderful stories and poems Rudyard wrote and will entertain us by performing one or two.

Gordon Russell was a pioneer—a furniture designer, maker, calligrapher, entrepreneur, educator, and advocate of accessible, well-crafted design. Educated in the Arts and Crafts tradition of the Cotswolds. He believed that good design profoundly impacts people’s lives. His great skill lay in bridging the gap between hand and machine, craft and design, theory and practice, landscape and architecture.
